Our Order of Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration was founded in Troyes, France, on December 8th, 1854, coinciding with the proclamation of the Dogma of the Immaculate Conception. Fr. Bonaventure, a Capuchin Friar, had long dreamed of beginning a religious Order for women in his parish. When he met Josephine Bouilleveaux, he knew he had found the right person to found it. Different ideas and apostolates were experimented with, but the birth of our current charism took place when Josephine heard Father Bonaventure preach on the Gosepl story of the ten lepers. She was filled with the desire to offer Our Lord Perpetual Adoration in the spirit of reparative thanksgiving to atone for the ingratitude He so often suffers from His creatures. And so, Josephine became Mother Marie Ste.Claire and a small band of followers joined her.
