St. Francis spoke so eloquently of the life lived totally for God that the beautiful noble lady, Clare di Faverone left home, riches, and family to likewise embrace a life of highest poverty and penance. She and the other sisters who soon followed her lived a cloistered life unlike the friars.Their special mission was to fuel the zealous fire of the Friar's ministries by their hidden lives of prayer and sacrifices.
The "Poor Ladies" as they were known originally, were formed by St. Francis to have a great love for the mysteries of Our Lord's humanity. He led them along the path of contemplating especially the humility of Our Lord as a Babe in Bethlehem, in the depths of His Sacred Passion, and His Presence among us in the Holy Eucharist. This charism which has been passed on to us is the framework inspired by the Holy Spirit and ratified by the Church, in which we strive to reach the perfection of love.
Today, we continue to follow in St. Clare's footsteps-she who was herself called "the footprint of the Mother of God." We cherish the poverty she desired in imitation of her Divine Spouse during His life on earth and with joy we celebrate the devotions so dear to the Franciscan Heart-adoring Jesus at the Crib, the Altar, and the Cross.
