A wooden screen separates our Cloister chapel from the public side. The bars of a metal grille stand between us and family and friends in our parlor. We do not leave our Monastery's enclosure without permission of our Abbess, the Bishop, or the Vatican depending on the circumstances. No one may enter our Monastery without special permission. The response of most people to this would be a confused "Why?" Are we locked up in some kind of prison? How could we possibly be happy? Why in the world can't we leave the Cloister for special events?
